Our Garden-- Rachel Blaustein
“Our Garden” portrays a woman and her companion as they prune an olive tree by Mount Carmel. In Rachel’s poem, she conveys a love that she associates with nature and with, more specifically, spring. The poem states, “Remember that morning, that gladness? They were- and disappeared, like the short spring of our country, like the short spring of our years.” By associating this love and happiness with spring, it is as if she is putting a timer on their happiness.
